the subject, of course, is very interesting. not much has been published on this very good actor.however, the way it has been written is quite trying. most of the sentences contain references to other actors, brackets, dashes, sub-sentences, humorous remarks etc. they make the book very difficult to follow.I am still at it, and still considering not finishing the bookpity!
You certainly get a wonderful impression of what made her so successful as an actress in both comedy and drama.Her roles thoroughly analyzed. In this case being authorized was a plus I would say. Give her insight others wouldhave been hard pressed to find.
Although I haven't yet read this biography, but it just has to be good !A wonderful and admirable actress for so many years.Book in very good condition and very fast delivery - thank you.
I was hoping for an interesting BIOGRAPHY of Maggie Smith. Instead, I got a survey of British theater and film with a bit of Broadway and Hollywood thrown in. Occasionally to author spent a few pages on the life of this great actress. I would not recommend this book to anyone wanting a biography. It was disappointing for me. Having read many biographies, I could not truly classify this as such. I hope to find a real biography of Maggie Smith someday.
She is a remarkable actress and I love her body of work. However it is light on her personal life which wouldhave been interesting and made the book more personal. It is a constant graphic critic of her great actingjourney, but as it is so graphic a bit plodding and hard to sustain interest.
This book doesn't really make her come alive
I'm a big Maggie Smith fan! However, I never have seen her on the stage, only in movies. I believe that I've loved everything movie she has been in. The book however, is mostly about her stage career with too much detail about each play. If you love the London and New York stage you'll probably relate to this book better than I. It really was not what I was expecting; I was hoping to get to know the real her better not just her work.
You must be up on your theatre and English actors before you read this.
